Facial
surgeries are meant for the correction of various parts of faces. Facial
surgeries like blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery are done to rectify the
drooping eyes. Sometimes it is done to remove the excess fat that accumulates
under the eyelid. The surgery is easy and rejuvenates the eyes. The operation
is safe with minute post operation issues. The surgery requires an incision of
skin to allow the removal of skin or fat from the area near the eye. A thin
stitch is then used to bring the skin together and allows a formation of eyelid
crease.
What is the
reason behind such surgery?
If
excessive fat accumulates in the upper eye, the appearance of the eye becomes
heavy. This may hamper the beauty of the face and more importantly may block
vision. Sometimes eye surgery is
done in the lower eyelid to remove wrinkles such that the patient does not look
aged any more. Sometimes removal of excess skin and eyes are required as well
to avoid the look of sagging and drooping eyes. The shape of the eye is
balanced and improved through various surgeries. The operation takes two hours.
The other reason why eyelid is operated is- fat layers are added to avoid
“hollowed” appearance of the eye.
How long does it
take to recover after surgery?
The
operation is simple and done with local anesthesia. The recovery does not take
much time. But associated with surgery is some swelling and bruises. These soon
begin to disappear with some time. The stitches can remain on the skin and will
take about one week to recover. If cold presses are applied within the first 48
hours then the swelling and bruises are reduced to a certain extent. Light
walks after the surgery allows speedy recovery. It takes 7 to 10 days for a
patient to recover.
Post Operation
Care
The
first two nights after the operation, the patient must sleep in a propped up
position with at least three or four pillows. The best treatment for bruises
and swelling of the eyelid is the application of ice packs. If the pain
persists one can take medication as prescribed by the doctor. The prescribe
ointment must be applied at least twice or thrice in twenty-four hours.
The
surgery in general enhances the looks of an individual. The drooping of eyes is
rectified. But this operation rejuvenates the face in general
and makes the individual look less fatigued. Associated with the surgery is
various temporary discomfort and tightness of the eyelid but this recovers
completely within a few weeks. Eyelid surgery removes the puffy bags formed below the eyelid.
